One PIM Platform for a Five-Brand Distribution Group

Saint-Gobain Distribution Norway (SGDN) is a leading distributor of construction materials, timber and interiors in Norway, operating through five businesses: Brødrene Dahl, Optimera, Montér, Ventistål and Flisekompaniet.

Each of those businesses had grown up managing product data its own way. As SGDN scaled, that made consistent, high-quality product information across the group harder to guarantee, and harder to keep pace with as the business grew.

The impact

Top Results

Single Source of Truth

Brødrene Dahl, Optimera, Montér, Ventistål and Flisekompaniet now run product data through a single Bluestone PIM platform, replacing separate, brand-by-brand processes.

Complex Catalogue Managed

Around 600,000 products are actively managed inside Bluestone PIM, part of SGDN's wider catalogue of 750,000 SKUs.

Supplier Data Quality Improved

Hundreds of suppliers now submit and maintain product information directly through a dedicated portal, raising data quality without increasing the workload on SGDN's own teams.

THE CHALLENGE

Five Brands, No Shared System

Each operating company managed product data separately, with no shared platform to standardise or customise processes across the group. That made it hard to guarantee consistent, trustworthy product data as the business scaled.

  • Inconsistent product data processes between operating companies
  • No central portal for the hundreds of suppliers submitting product information

  • A previous PIM system unable to scale at the speed the business needed, with a direct impact on the bottom line

  • Product data spread across multiple sources, including an ERP system, an industry database and spreadsheets

  • More than 750,000 SKUs across five operating companies, requiring a platform that could standardise processes while still allowing each business to customise for its own market

  • A robust, scalable PIM platform, built to handle large volumes of data reliably and to be rolled out across every company in the group

OUR APPROACH

The Central Hub Between Suppliers and Every Sales Channel

Bluestone PIM became the central product data hub for Saint-Gobain Distribution Norway, giving every operating company a single, composable platform for product data instead of five separate approaches.

  • Supplier data, ERP records, industry database feeds and spreadsheets all feed into Bluestone PIM as a single point of entry for product information

  • A dedicated supplier portal lets hundreds of suppliers collaborate directly on product records, replacing documentation previously submitted in multiple formats

  • A completeness score flags which products are best performing and where information is missing, so suppliers know exactly what to fix, with automated distribution of tasks such as missing descriptions or absent media

  • Task management breaks enrichment work into assignments with deadlines and owners, tagged to individual products or applied in bulk

  • Enriched product data is distributed out to e-commerce and multi-channel storefronts, B2B and reseller channels, marketplaces and syndication feeds, and marketing and print material

  • Bulk Edit lets teams update and compare large volumes of product data at once, and Excel import and export moves products between single and variant groups in a single operation

WHAT'S NEXT

Looking Ahead

With all five operating companies onboarded to a single platform, SGDN is positioned to keep expanding the supplier portal and extending automated data completeness checks as its catalogue continues to grow. Bluestone PIM's headless, API-first architecture gives the group room to connect further channels and systems as its distribution network evolves, without rebuilding the product data foundation each time.
